Toledo, Spain - Sunday October 12, 2014

The Toledo Parador is actually the best hotel we have stayed at so far...........very luxurious and overlooking the city of Toledo.  We had an outrageous buffet breakfast this morning .....  any breakfast food and drink you can possibly think of was at the buffet, including eggs, bacon, sausages, smoked salmon, fruit and on and on.  Gail and I ate quite well and then took a taxi down to Toledo.  The Parador where we are staying is on a hill overlooking Toledo and from all I have read, we did not want to take the car into the city.  Toledo's streets are extremely narrow, winding and made of cobblestone, as this town was built over a thousand years ago.  Unfortunately there must have been some issues along the route to the city, so the taxi ended up driving through olive orchards, dirt roads and other obstacles in order to get us to our destination.  We finally made it there, but the fare was probably twice what it normally would have been. It actually was a very interesting ride.  Once we arrived in the city, we visited many of the highlights, including two very old Jewish synagogues, churches, historic buildings and paintings of El Greco.  We browsed in many of the typical tourist shops and saw swords, knives, engraved plates, colorful tiles, etc. etc.  Some very nice stuff as well as some basic tourist junk.  After having Cafe Con Leche and some pastries at an outdoor cafe we took a taxi back to the Parador where we relaxed for the evening.  We must have walked at least five miles today as we do everyday, and all the walking is starting to catch up with us. (BTW......we did NOT eat at McDonalds) Tomorrow we are off to Cordoba.
