Seville, Spain - Wednesday October 15, 2014

This morning after our Cafe con leche, we went on a walking tour of Seville, with Feel The City Tours.  It is a walking tour of the city, advertised at our hotel.  They offer guests at many hotels a free guided tour around the main monuments of Sevilla.  They recommend a tip to the tour guide at the end of the tour.  It was an excellent tour that lasted approximately three hours.  Our tour guide was extremely knowledgeable of Sevilla and spoke perfect English.  Unfortunately, toward the end of the tour it started raining, but most of the people had umbrellas.  The rain definitely put a damper on the tour since it made it difficult to take photos.  One stop along the way that was intriguing to many on the tour was the Plaza de Toros (Bull Fighting Ring). The last stop on the tour was the Plaza de Espana, which is a magnificent building, built in the 1920s for the World's Fair, and today consists mainly of government offices. Once the tour was over, Gail and I had a nice lunch and then rested in our room for a bit until the rain stopped.  Once the rain ended we were off again to explore the city.  We wanted to visit the Alcazar (Palace), but it was closed because they are filming an HBO show inside..........."Game of Thrones".  We also wanted to go to the top of the famous Gothic Cathedral of Sevilla, but because of the rain we did not do that either.   We made the most of the day by walking around with the umbrella and doing some window shopping.  Like many of the other cities we visited, there are many shops selling the same typical Spanish tourist items. Since we had a large lunch and were not extremely hungry for dinner, we sat at an outside cafe and had a pitcher of Sangria and some tapas before heading back to the hotel.  We walked approximately ten miles today (even in the rain) and were exhausted.  I have an app for my iPhone that tells me how many miles we walk each day.  Today was the winner at 9.7 miles.

  1. Seville was one of our favorite places. You certainly got to most of it considering the weather and closed set. I'll have to see if I recognize it in Game of Thrones.
