Segovia - Friday October 10,2014
After having our breakfast, we walked to the car rental agency. The walk was not too far, and we picked up the car about noon time. We were given a red Skoda Ocatavian, which is a full size car. I was quite happy because the car has a diesel engine and a five speed manual transmission. The diesel is great since it will get a lot better MPG than general petrol. The price of gas here in Spain is approximately $6.50 a gallon. After picking up the car we head north to Segovia, which was approximately a one hour ride. We took the long way, through the winding hills, rather than go on the boring highway. We finally arrived at our hotel after winding in and out of the small narrow streets in Segovia. The GPS was helpful, but the streets of Segovia were not really designed for automobiles, which made the task of finding the hotel almost impossible. After checking into the hotel we walked around the old city, saw the famous Segovia Aqueduct that was built by the Romans approximately the first century AD. It has been reconstructed over time, and is the principal symbol of Segovia. We walked all around the old city, checking out a lot of the old architecture, including the famous Alczar, or castle, where Queen Isabel agree to fund Christopher Columbus' exploration of the New World. After taking a brief rest at the hotel we were off to dinner at the El Bernardino Restaurant for some traditional Castillian food.
As Usual, click on any photo to enlarge it

I had a poster of the aqueduct of Segovia in my classroom for many many years!
