Ronda / Nerja, Spain - October 18, 2014

This morning we left our wonderful hotel room in Algeciras and were on our way to Nerja, a small city on the southern coast of Spain, right on the Mediterranean Sea.  On the way we set the GPS for the backroads to the city of Ronda, as a stop off point along the way.  We had heard about Ronda from many people, as a pretty town surrounded by gorgeous mountains and valleys.  Since we took the backroads to Ronda, we surely were able to see the beautiful scenery.  The roads were winding around many hills and mountains and as a result I had to keep the car in 3rd or 4th gear for a large portion of the ride........but the scenery was well worth it.  Photos cannot even capture what we had seen on the ride today.  We stopped in Ronda for about an hour and a half, had lunch and were on our way toward Nerja.  The road coming down from Nerja was quite amazing as well and then we took the coastal road along the Mediterranean until we reach Nerja by about 6 PM.  Nerja is a seaside resort on the Costa del Sol.  We found the hotel, with the typical difficulty in a Spanish city, settled in and were off to dinner.  We found a great Italian restaurant which was a wonder change of pace from the typical Spanish fare we have been eating for the past several weeks.  After dinner we strolled around the town, walked along the "Balcony of Europe" and headed back to the hotel.  Nerja is a very pretty, cute tourist town with many shops and restaurants.  I would recommend that anyone getting to this part of Spain stop here for a few days to relax on the Mediterranean Sea and have some good food and scenery.
