Started our day today with a short walk around the "Balcony of Europe" and the small town of Nerja. Nerja is a really pretty tourist type town with many restaurants and shops catering to people from all over Europe and America. We have not seen as many Asian people as we have in many of the larger cities of Spain. By mid day we took a walk over to
Burriana Beach, which is less than a mile east of Nerja. The beach was very busy as today the weather here was in the mid 80s and quite hot and sunny. We surveyed the beach area, waded into the cold Mediterranean Sea for a bit and then went to
Ayo's for lunch. Ayo's is a famous restaurant on Burriana Beach that specializes in serving paella since 1969. The paella is cooked in huge paella pans over a wood fire. For a fixed price of 6.75 euros, you get a plate of paella and you can go back for refills as many times as you wish. Gail and I had a great paella lunch with shrimp, chicken & clams. (See photos below) Once we were done with two servings we were stuffed and slowly walked back to the area of our hotel in central Nerja & stopped for a cup of ice cream. We rested for a bit at the hotel, went out for a late cafe con leche and by 8:30 PM were off for some wood oven pizza. The Spanish food has been great, but we needed a bit of a change and the pizza fit the bill. It was a great restful day on the Costa del Sol with some fine food as well. Tomorrow we are off to Granada for a few days to see the Alhambra.

Food looks amazing. Sounds great too! Randy learned to cook paella from a Spanish chef in Kingston. Maybe he will make you some!
ReplyDeleteMy parents would have LOVED to eat here! And can't complain with that price!
