After breakfast this morning we drove from Algeciras to Gibraltar to meet our friends at 10 AM. Our friends Ann & Francis picked us up once we got through customs. It was great to see them again after eight years. Since they have lived in Gibraltar all their lives, they knew all the highlights and what to show us. It was great having a private tour of Gibraltar by natives. We first drove around the area, learning a bit about the history of Gibraltar and its strategic location at the crossroads of the Atlantic Ocean and the Mediterranean Sea. We next headed up the "Rock of Gibraltar" to see the highlights, including several tunnels, caves and the Barbary macaques monkeys. These monkeys are considered to be one of the main tourist attractions in Gibraltar. They run freely in the upper rock area and are quite interesting to see. After heading down the rock and back into the city, we headed over to Ann & Francis' home for a fantastic home cooked meal. Gail and I thoroughly enjoyed our friends hospitality and a lovely lunch. After lunch we relaxed and chatted a bit before walking into the center of town to browse the shops and stop for a drink before returning to Ann & Francis' home. By about 7:30 PM, after a fun and enjoyable day, Francis' drove us back to the customs crossing so Gail and I could get our car and head back to our hotel in Algeciras. Gail and I had a great day in Gibraltar and really want to thank Ann & Francis' for everything they did to make our day so special and enjoyable. Tomorrow we leave Algeciras and head for Ronda and then on to Nerja, as we head east toward Granada and Barcelona.

How great that you were able to catch up and get such a personalized tour of Gibraltar! Perfect way to spend the day!
